Meet Dr. Shaheen
Dr. Shaheen earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Michigan. He went on to complete medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Following medical school, he completed a surgical internship at Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital, followed by five years of general surgery residency training at Wayne State University. During his final year, he served as Administrative Chief Resident and was honored with two awards for Best Teaching Resident.
Dr. Shaheen completed his plastic surgery residency training at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After completing residency, he began private practice in 1991 at William Beaumont Hospital. He also started the Craniofacial clinic at Beaumont Royal Oak in 1995. He is currently still the director of the Clinic through Corewell Royal Oak.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Shaheen served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Wayne State University, where he taught residents from 1991 through the completion of its program. He is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.
Since 2008, Dr. Shaheen has served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, a position he continues to hold today. He is also the Associate Director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program at Royal Oak Beaumont.
In 2016, Dr. Shaheen served as Program Director for the Michigan Academy of Plastic Surgeons and later became President of the organization. He has authored numerous publications and presentations in the field of plastic surgery.
Further demonstrating his commitment to leadership and innovation in healthcare, Dr. Shaheen earned his MBA from the University of Michigan in 2016.
Dr. Shaheen remains deeply committed to education and mentorship, actively training residents, medical students, physician assistants, and nurses.
